Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), sorption analysis and microcalorimetry are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. Application of these and other techniques will be focused on methods for determination of amorphous content in crystalline solids, microdetermination of solubility by thermogravimetry, and enantiotropic polymorphic transition will be highlighted.
Dr. Charles Potter is an applications scientist with TA Instruments. He lectures extensively on applications of thermal analysis and calorimetry in many different industries including pharma, polymers, and thermosets including both materials characterization and process optimization. Prior to TA Instruments he worked in central R&D of a large specialty chemical manufacturer where he applied thermal analysis to a wide variety of materials for packaging, food, pharma, electronics and many other industries. He is a thermal analyst with exhaustive experience of its applications in many industries and many diverse materials.
